RTE confirms write-down of 3.6m on partly failed IT project
Briefly

The ERP project undertaken by RTÉ was intended to replace outdated Finance and HR systems that were nearing end-of-life. Launched in 2016 and funded by a 2017 land sale, the project faced immediate challenges, including resource constraints and poor product quality. By January 2019, it was behind schedule, which worsened due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The initial contract was terminated, leading RTÉ to engage another supplier. A review by Ernst & Young in 2023 highlighted the project's unique difficulties among RTÉ's capital projects.
The ERP project aimed to replace aging HR and Finance systems at RTÉ, initially funded by land sale proceeds but faced significant issues leading to delays and cost overruns.
Consultants from Ernst & Young were commissioned to review the ERP project, which had been identified as an outlier among RTÉ's other capital projects due to its challenges.
