Thousands of Lottery Players Mistakenly Told They Won Millions | Entrepreneur

A major blunder by Norsk Tipping, Norway's state-owned gambling company, resulted in thousands of Eurojackpot lottery players being misinformed about their winnings due to a currency conversion mistake. Instead of properly converting Euros to Norwegian kroner, the amounts were mistakenly multiplied by 100. CEO Tonje Sagstuen expressed her remorse, stating that many disappointed players had already made financial plans based on these incorrect notifications. Following the incident, Sagstuen announced her resignation after eight years with the company as a form of accountability for the error.
"I have received many messages from people who had managed to make plans for holidays, buying an apartment, or renovating before they realized that the amount was wrong," Sagstuen said. "To them I can only say: Sorry! But I understand that it is a small consolation."
Tonje Sagstuen, CEO of Norsk Tipping, said in a statement that they were "terribly sorry to have disappointed so many" and detailed some of the not-very-happy missives they've received.
