Groundbreaking Coffee Leaf Rust Study Offers Insights Into Resistance
Briefly

World Coffee Research has conducted the largest evaluation of arabica coffee varieties' resistance to coffee leaf rust. The study analyzed 29 varieties across 23 field sites in 15 countries. Results revealed that while no variety is immune, some show consistent resistance to the disease in varying environments. The work arose from a global collaboration aimed at helping coffee producers combat ongoing challenges posed by coffee leaf rust, which significantly affected Latin America since 2012 and has spread globally since its identification in the 19th century.
No single variety is universally immune to coffee leaf rust (CLR), but several demonstrated consistent resistance across different environments.
This trial shows the power of global collaboration - by pooling data, expertise, and resources across nations.
