A small-budget cult classic can be just as iconic as a major studio film if it speaks to audiences and evokes strong feelings.

Jazz drummer, composer and band leader Jack DeJohnette began playing drums in his school band at the age of 14. In 1969, he joined Miles Davis' band and played on the iconic album "Bitches Brew." He played with other jazz legends, including Keith Jarrett and Chet Baker. He won a Grammy Award in 2009 for his album, "Peace Time," and another in 2022 for his album, "Skyline."

He was the actor I wanted to play this role. It was very much designed around him. It drew on his Native American heritage and his ties to and love of the Southwest. Voorhees emphasized that Kilmer had really wanted to participate in the filming, but was just going through a really, really tough time medically, and he couldn't do it.
