Garda Dylan O'Malley reported that on August 9, 2023, he found Sumod George Sam asleep in a running vehicle with an empty vodka bottle nearby. Sam failed a roadside breath test, yielding a reading of 99 micrograms of alcohol per 100ml of breath, significantly above the legal limit for a learner driver. Despite having a previous drink driving conviction and being under a three-year disqualification, Sam pleaded guilty to charges regarding the incident.

Murphy, 29, pleaded guilty to driving while over the prescribed limit of alcohol. He was not asked to plead on failing to cooperate with a test.
