The former Washington Capitals forward has mutually terminated his contract with SKA Saint Petersburg and is reportedly coming back stateside to join another NHL organization. According to NHL.com's Stefen Rosner, Dubé, a 2024 Calder Cup champion with the Hershey Bears, is set to sign a deal with the New York Islanders. Given he's coming over in the middle of the NHL season, Dubé will need to clear waivers before joining the Isles and then likely get sent to the AHL's Bridgeport Islanders.
After beginning his professional career with only 48 points through his first 124 AHL games. Many people were quick to write off Matthew Maggio in his value as a New York Islanders prospect. But this season Maggio has completely turned it around, and the stats are there to prove it. Maggio has turned heads with his play this season. Maggio has started the AHL season with 4 goals and 16 points in his first 21 games.
One of the reasons for this improved start has been the play of rookie Joey Larson. After appearing in six games last season and racking up a goal and two assists, Larson has hit the ground running. In 13 games, he has seven goals and two assists for nine points. His goal total is tied with Daniil But for most goals among AHL rookies. This strong start improves Larson's standing in the organization. It could help him make a case for a call-up someday.
