"Kids show up to school when they feel connected to adults, peers and are engaged in something meaningful," said Hedy Chang, chief executive of Attendance Works.

"You play, what, 36 games, and you try to put yourself in this situation as often as you can. I think every team that's here knows that this weekend is probably the biggest weekend of the year."

St. John's and Connecticut, the top two seeds, are heavily favored to meet in Saturday's championship game. They are the only Big East schools ranked in the Associated Press top 25 poll: UConn is sixth and St. John's is 13th. Both are locks for the NCAA tournament, as is Villanova, the No. 3 seed.

The Big 12 is stacked with talent. With nearly 20 players appearing across most mock drafts and big boards, this year's tournament has the potential to be one of the best.

Charleston (SC) was victorious in its most recent game against UNC Wilmington, 79-76, on Sunday. Jlynn Counter led the way with 23 points, plus three rebounds and seven assists. In its previous game, Towson defeated Hampton on Saturday, 74-68. Tyler Tejada scored a team-high 35 points (and added three assists and six boards).

Alcorn State's -396 scoring differential (outscored by 14.2 points per game) is a result of scoring 67.6 points per game (339th in college basketball) while allowing 81.8 per contest (347th in college basketball). The 67.6 points the Braves average are 16.1 fewer than the Delta Devils give up.

FGCU is outscoring opponents by 2.9 points per game with a +83 scoring differential overall. It puts up 62.6 points per game (243rd in college basketball) and allows 59.7 per contest (71st in college basketball). The Eagles score 18.6 fewer points than the Knights concede (81.2).

Chattanooga has a +158 scoring differential, topping opponents by 5.8 points per game. It is putting up 64.4 points per game to rank 210th in college basketball and is allowing 58.6 per outing to rank 43rd in college basketball.

Southern outscores opponents by 1.1 points per game (scoring 80.1 per game to rank 103rd in college basketball while giving up 79.0 per contest to rank 308th in college basketball) and has a +24 scoring differential overall. The 80.1 points the Jaguars average are 6.4 fewer than the Tigers give up. Southern knocks down 6.8 three-pointers per game (280th in college basketball), 1.4 fewer than its opponents (8.2). The Jaguars are posting 95.4 points per game in home games.

The Alcorn State Braves (12-10) will host the Florida A&M Rattlers (7-15) after winning five home games in a row. In its previous game, Alcorn State fell to UAPB on Saturday, 64-60. Kiarra Henderson scored a team-high 20 points (and added five assists and eight rebounds). Florida A&M was victorious in its previous game against Texas Southern, 86-73, on Saturday. Tahnyjia Purifoy was its top scorer with 19 points.

Stony Brook dropped its most recent game to Northeastern, 73-60, on Sunday. Janay Brantley led the way with 26 points, and also had three rebounds and four assists.
