Despite continued speculation, the San Francisco 49ers have no plans to trade quarterback Mac Jones this offseason and fully intend to bring him back as Brock Purdy's backup, sources told ESPN's Adam Schefter on Sunday. Jones is under contract with the 49ers for the 2026 season after signing a two-year contract in free agency last year. Stepping in for Purdy in eight games this season, Jones kept the 49ers in the playoff mix as they went 5-3 in games he started.
There was a conversation this week between the Maple Leafs and Matthews' representation. They just asked, "Is anything here different with the way this season has gone?" Is there any reason for the Maple Leafs to believe Matthews wouldn't want to return for 2026-27, or for Matthews believe that the Maple Leafs wouldn't want him to return for 2026-27? Drury held a private conversation with Panarin, explaining that the pending free agent will not receive an extension offer from the team. It's hard to say how I feel, Panarin said on Saturday night following a rare 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers. I'm still confused, but the GM decided to go in a different direction. I'm OK with that.
Minnesota became sellers at the trade deadline this year as they parted with 10 players from their Major League roster. Among those traded were Carlos Correa, Brock Stewart, Griffin Jax, Harrison Bader, Louis Varland and Jhoan Duran. But now as the Twins look to rebound under new manager Derek Shelton, indications are they will attempt to add to their roster rather than flip remaining trade chips.
Do we think we're seeing enough growth there? Do we see potential growth quickly in this league, or does it make sense for him to go back? Warsofsky said. Right now, we believe being right here is a good spot for him.
While speculation continues to swirl around the superstar's long-term future, McDavid has offered little to fuel the fantasy. Speaking recently during Team Canada's Olympic orientation camp, the Oilers captain struck a measured tone when asked about resigning in Edmonton, echoing the patience he expressed during his postseason press conference after a second straight Stanley Cup Final loss to the Florida Panthers.
TOS surgery would keep Gray sidelined for a big chunk of the 2026 season and perhaps the entirety of next year, and Gray would be 35 on Opening Day 2027. The idea of hanging up his glove entirely has apparently at least crossed Gray's mind, as Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News writes that Gray "responded mostly with a shrug" when asked by reporters Friday if he was going to keep playing beyond this season.
