I had some conversations with higher-ups in the NFL. They all usually start with conversations about our current players and turn into: Would you be interested in making a transition to the NFL? I'm glad I had those conversations. I learned a lot.
UConn was selected as the Fort Worth 1 Region champion by all 22 voters. No other team was a unanimous Final Four pick, but the 1-seeds received a clear majority. South Carolina received 21 votes, Texas had 19 and UCLA 15.
For a few hours on Saturday, there was a legitimate debate. Florida was comfortably headed toward the final 1-seed entering Champ Week. The Gators won 11 straight games to end the regular season, while UConn lost at a sub-.500 Marquette in the regular-season finale and Houston lost three in a row late in February.
Cornell is thrilled to welcome all of these incredible student-athletes to Ithaca. The NCAA basketball tournaments are cultural institutions and lots of fun. I'm excited and proud, both as a fan and as the university's president, to host our terrific Ivy athletes, coaches and fans.
