"Eagle" Ed Martin, the Trump loyalist that even this Republican Senate found too incompetent to confirm when he sought to head the U.S. Attorney's Office in D.C., has managed to find a new way to confirm that skepticism. Earlier this week, we heard that the DOJ relieved Ed of his tasks as the driving force behing the DOJ's anti-weaponization initiative - the ironically named group working to actively weaponize the DOJ against Trump's political enemies. Every accusation really is a confession, as they say.
[Pam Bondi] said the [Weaponization Working Group] would focus on investigations into Trump conducted by former special counsel Jack Smith and his staff; Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and New York Attorney General Letitia James; and any "improper" investigations into the January 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. But after a year, the group has not produced anything publicly.
Ed Martin expected to be the U.S. Attorney in D.C. in this administration. Unfortunately, even the Republican-controlled Senate found the January 6 cheerleader too irredeemably stupid to trust with safety scissors, let alone one of the most important prosecutorial offices in the country. While Trump made up new rules to keep nominees like Alina Habba in office, that wasn't political capital the president was willing to spend on Martin.
Ed Martin, the director of the Justice Department's Weaponization Working Group, urged New York Attorney General Letitia James to resign as an act of good faith amid a mortgage fraud investigation.
Grand juries in both Maryland and Virginia are currently considering whether to bring criminal charges against James and Schiff, based on accusations that they manipulated property documents to obtain better loan conditions.
