In the days and weeks after the 2020 election, partisans across the country used lies and deceit to try to defraud the American people and steal the White House. Although Joe Biden was the clear and unequivocal winner, racking up big margins in the popular vote and electoral college, 84 fake electors signed statements certifying that Donald Trump had carried their seven battleground states. He did not.

Earlier this month, President Donald Trump quietly pardoned 77 people across the country who participated in the fake electors scheme of 2020, the wildly illegal attempt to subvert election results in battleground states that Joe Biden won and instead declare Trump the winner.

District court judge Kristen Simmons decided that the state had not provided evidence sufficient to prove intent, a requirement for fraud cases. She told a courtroom on Tuesday that the case did not involve the intent of those who orchestrated the scheme, like Kenneth Chesebro and other Trump attorneys but those who actually signed the documents, Votebeat reported. I believe they were executing their constitutional right to seek redress, Simmons said of those who signed the documents.
