The Bay Area received rain over four days during the past week, although it was distributed unevenly with the North Bay having more on some days and the South Bay getting wetter later in the week. With at least 10 days of sunny weather expected in the forecast through mid-October, dry conditions are back. And the light rain of the past week wasn't enough to end fire season, experts say.

California recorded 8,110 blazes in 2024, marking a significant increase in wildfire activity compared to other regions across the country, emphasizing the state's fire vulnerability.

"It is critical that we suppress fires as swiftly as possible to minimize the amount of fireline exposure... This means employing direct attack tactics when... feasible."

CAL FIRE is conducting its seasonal firefighter training academy earlier this year in response to increased fire fuel levels due to a wet winter.
