Console gaming remains important, durable, and still growing while Xbox focuses on reviving major franchises and strengthening its console business.
The Rise of Skywalker was the sequel trilogy's critical and commercial low-point, and while it still hauled in a hefty sack of cash for its galactic overlords at Disney, the franchise doesn't seem to know what to do with itself now that the Skywalker Saga has reached its empty end.
New Line Cinema and Warner Bros. are determined to restore Middle-earth to its box office throne with projects including the newly announced The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the Past, which will be co-written by Late Show host and famed Tolkien nerd Stephen Colbert.
We didn't want to just announce a single remake to 'test the waters.' We wanted people to feel how serious we were about reviving the series. Developing a remake and a new title simultaneously naturally involves risks, but we wanted to convey our commitment first and foremost. Only when a new game is announced can the future of a series be seen.
When asked about what percentage of the studio Fox estimated would be excited if he said the next game after Ghost of Yotei would be a new Sly Cooper, he had this to say: "10%." After such a low figure was offered, interviewer Ben Hanson expressed his surprise, to which Fox responded, "It's been a long time, Ben, since Sly Cooper's come out." Back in 2022, a blog post from Sucker Punch even outright said there aren't any Sly Cooper games in the works.
