The Los Angeles Dodgers are rumored to be kicking the tires on a potential Freddy Peralta trade as the Milwaukee Brewers shop him around. It would be the Dodgers' second splash of the offseason after already signing Edwin Díaz to bolster their bullpen. Starting pitching is far from the Dodgers' biggest need heading into the 2026 season, but consistently looking for ways to upgrade and acquire high-end talent has been a hallmark of the organization under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman.
According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, the Red Sox are one of the teams "in on" Brewers ace Freddy Peralta, who could be available this offseason. "The Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, San Francisco Giants and Houston Astros are among the teams in on Peralta, according to people familiar with the Brewers' discussion," Rosenthal and Sammon wrote, later adding that "no deal appears close."
While I would love to see Cease in a Braves' uni, I think he may get a much better deal elsewhere with Atlanta's seeming insistence on being "logical" with every free agent (cue Friedman's famous quote). Milwaukee has a penchant for really getting something extra out of pitchers, and Peralta is a finished product who will be too expensive for them to keep much longer.
There's never been any indication Skubal and the Tigers were close on a contract extension, nor is there a sign the team's willingness to trade him has changed. Steve Adams and I differ on the likelihood of an offseason trade happening. In a discussion last week, Steve pegged the chances of a Skubal trade this winter at 0.25%. I'm more in the range of 5-10%.
Andrew Vaughn made a standout debut with his new team by hitting a three-run homer in his first plate appearance, contributing significantly to the team's performance.
