The main thing that impresses me is the variety. Oweh, Chaisson and Mafe are speed artists who can create pressure fast. Guys like Mack, Clowney and Kingsley Enagbare (Packers) are all hitters in the running game.

When the Washington Commanders gave wide receiver Treylon Burks a second chance after his abrupt departure from the Tennessee Titans, nobody was expecting too much. He's never come close to reaching his first-round billing. The injuries that eventually led to Burks' release from the Titans only further tempered expectations. Burks flashed brief moments of promise, but nothing more. That puts the Commanders in a dilemma with the wideout before he gets the chance to test free agency.
Before the season was all said-and-done, Clowney was the best pass rusher in the building, and not simply because others struggled mightily to consistently get to the opposing quarterback. Clowney had a very good season by any contextual measurement, and in multiple categories. The 32-year-old notched a team-high in sacks (8.5), also this second-highest tally in the past four seasons,
Former Los Angeles Dodgers starting pitcher Walker Buehler signed a minor league deal with the San Diego Padres on Monday. Buehler pitched for the Dodgers from 2017-24, missing the 2023 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery. The right-hander turned down a $20 million offer from the Dodgers after entering free agency at the end of the 2024 season, and ultimately joined the Boston Red Sox. They released him midway through the season, and he finished the year with the Philadelphia Phillies.
While re-signing both could be possible, extending Gausman should be the preferred choice if it ends up being one or the other situation. Very few starting pitchers in the game are as consistent as Gausman. He's made at least 31 starts each of the past five seasons with an ERA of 3.83 or better. All signs point to him putting up strong numbers again after showing no signs of slowing down in 2025.
Starting pitcher Chris Bassitt remained stuck on the free agent market until a few days ago when he signed with the AL East rival Baltimore Orioles. It's a solid move for an intimidating Orioles squad that wants to return to the postseason in 2026. Veterans bring clarity to a defense by being able to be the calming force in a sometimes hectic game. A veteran doesn't have to necessarily be the most vocal, but must let their game speak for itself. That sets the tone for younger players trying to adjust to the NFL. A good free agent pickup can reduce mental mistakes, stabilize alignments, and allow younger players to develop, which is the key to a successful defense.
