I started modeling when I was 19. I was hanging out with what I considered to be some of the most beautiful people in the world. What I realized really quickly was that everybody had an insecurity. Everybody. You look in the mirror long enough, you'll find something you don't like, or that you think could be better, or you think could be different.
The first thing that signalled the turn around of Gucci in the early 1990s under a then-unknown Texan designer named Tom Ford was a pair of clogs that, inexplicably, became the hottest item in fashion circa 1994. Afterwards Carine Roitfeld, keynote stylist of Gucci under its subsequent heady 90s explosion, spent a whole season in 1997 treading on the straps of her slingbacks.
Gucci first put a horsebit - the metal mullen that chomps into a horse's mouth to allow the rider to control its direction - on a soft leather loafer in 1953. It was, by then, a non-essential bit of tack, a nod to an equestrian tradition in leather making that allied the brand with European aristocracy, even if everyone was driving cars by then.
Demi Moore tripping out to Doechii's "Nosebleeds," Keke Palmer dating a woman whose family just bought Florida, and Elliot Page being a smarmy Succession bro? Thank God we didn't get raptured so we could witness this. Since the world didn't end on Tuesday, Gucci was able to kick off Milan Fashion Week by premiering a star-studded film, The Tiger, in lieu of a typical runway show.
One day later, the label kicked off MFW by skipping an actual show. Instead, Gucci invited A-list celebrities to a screening and dressed them in the collection. Think: Gwyneth Paltrow, Serena Williams, and Alex Consani. And the short film they watched? Also about the clothes. It was Gucci-ception in the best way. While the film featured several standout stars, including Keke Palmer and Demi Moore, one I can't stop thinking about is Kendall Jenner and her sparkly mini.
