Fifa has opened disciplinary proceedings today against the Spanish FA for the incidents in the friendly against Egypt. Spanish police launched an investigation into the chants last week.

"It's more positive, but, of course, it's been a few months since then. We've tried to put it behind us and focus on this match we have here, and hopefully another one in Stockholm in a few days."

Team USA men's hockey easily handled Latvia in their opening game of the 2026 Winter Olympics, securing a 5-1 victory. The focus now turns to their second round-robin game against Denmark on Saturday at 3:10 p.m. ET. Denmark lost their opener 3-1 to Germany but played better than the scoreline suggests. They outshot the Germans 38-25 but struggled to contain the star power of Leon Draisaitl and Tim Stutzle.

Entering Saturday's action, Sweden needed to win by three goals or greater to secure the top place in Group B. Slovakia won its previous two games, and held a commanding divisional lead. Dalibor Dvorsky scored for Slovakia with 39 seconds left, to preserve its entry into the quarterfinal. If Finland defeats Italy in regulation, Slovakia will capture Group B. Any other result, and Sweden will win the group.

Brad Stulberg took to Instagram to share that the country's approach to youth sports could be part of the reason why. Obviously Norway and winter sports kind of go hand-in-hand, but Stulberg points out that the country does things a lot differently than countries like America or Canada, where youth sports often feel more like minor league tryouts than kids learning sportsmanship, athleticism, and skills.

Since that year's Winter Olympics, the team has seen a slow yet pronounced decline in its overall performance. In the four editions of Olympic hockey following that 2006 tournament, Sweden lost the bronze medal game twice (2010, 2014), finished seventh in 2018 and finished eighth in 2022. That 2022 finish marked the Swedes' worst performance yet in an Olympic women's hockey tournament.

The last time Sweden won gold at the Winter Olympics was in 2006. That men's hockey entry, captained by Mats Sundin, rallied from a third-place group stage finish and to eventually secure the gold medal. Since that point, the men's national hockey program won just one silver medal while making it to the bronze medal game once. They also haven't won gold at the IIHF World Championship since 2018.

For the first time in twelve years, Germany's women's hockey team will be playing at the Winter Olympics. When Germany last contested the women's hockey event at the Winter Olympics, the team finished third in Group B before securing seventh place courtesy of the 5th-8th place bracket. Since that 2014 Winter Olympics, Germany was relegated and then promoted back to the IIHF Women's World Championship.

On the surface it was business at usual at this year's Six Nations launch in a chilly Edinburgh. Bayern are implementing several measures so that tomorrow's game against Frankfurt can take place as planned following this week's heavy snowfall in Munich. Significant snowfall is not expected during the game tomorrow - but several teams will be working simultaneously to remove the existing snow and any more expected. The groundskeepers will clear the pitch, while the under-soil heating system will melt the remaining snow.
