To be clear, while this is only a few data points, the r-squared between these two data elements is over 50 percent, i.e., over half the variation in league-average HR/FB alone is explained just by the mean drag coefficient for the year. The chart is also incredibly blatant (one goes up, the other goes down), with the main thing ruining being, in part, 2025 - where the ball's coefficient of restitution changed in addition to its drag coefficient.
Jameson Taillon got the start for the North Siders and surrendered a 1st inning solo home run to Austin Hays to begin the scoring. Seiya Suzuki responded in the bottom half with his own homer off of Jonathan Cannon to even things up. Taillon ran into more problems in the 2nd inning giving up another homer as part of a three-run inning that put the White Sox on top 4-1. The road team continued to score and eventually would prevail by a final of 8-1.
Anyway, Santander's 2025 wasn't great. A natural slow starter, Santander struggled in the first month or so, before getting hot for just under two weeks. Then, the injuries started, as he played through a hip and shoulder injury in May, ending up on the injured list. He stayed there until the final four games of the season, and was removed from their American League Championship Series roster due to a back injury.
Here's all six of Gage Stanifer's strikeouts from this evening. His sinker averaged 95.5 mph, but touched as high as 97.4 mph (max spin rate of 2,515 RPM). Generated 11 whiffs on 30 total swings for a 37 whiff% RJ Schreck just hit his 16th home run of the season, moving into an organization-leading tie with Charles McAdoo and Sean Keys. Double-digit homers for Arjun Nimmala! The @BlueJays' No. 1
Over the course of his 16-year career, the designated hitter played for the Cincinnati Reds, Blue Jays, Cleveland Guardians, Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees, and Chicago White Sox, making a name for himself in his third full season with the Blue Jays. After 16 seasons in the big leagues, Encarnación finished with a .260/.350/.496 slash line with 424 home runs in 8,126 plate appearances for a 125 wRC+ and 33.5 fWAR. Unfortunately, Encarnación will not make the Hall of Fame.
Voit signed with the Eagles in June and made a quick impact with his new team. Over 276 plate appearances and 67 games as a DH and first baseman, Voit hit .300/.384/.498 with 13 home runs. Despite his late entry to the 2025 campaign, Voit still led the Eagles in homers, and had the second-most RBI (39) on the team. Retaining Voit was a logical move for the power-starved Eagles, whose 70 homers were the fewest of NPB's 12 clubs.
It felt impossible, after fine margins decided the first two games of their ALDS series, that the Seattle Mariners would be capable of winning a game comfortably, and yet here we are. They weathered Tarik Skubal while in Seattle, traveled to Detroit for a game that got just weird enough-thanks to a rain delay that pushed the start time back three hours and the channel to FS2-and won Tuesday's Game 3, 8-4 at that.
The Phillies took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Kyle Schwarber blasted his 53rd homer of the season on a slider outside the zone. That came against Anthony Banda, who was working as the opener for Emmet Sheehan against the top of the order. The Dodgers offense tied things up in the third inning when Andy Pages started out with a double and came around to score on a sacrifice fly from Mookie Betts.
DETROIT -- Rookie Nolan McLean continued his brilliant start to his MLB career, retiring his final 14 batters Tuesday night to lead the Mets to a 12-5 victory over the Detroit Tigers. McLean became the first Mets pitcher to go 4-0 in his first four starts, and just the first pitcher in the majors to do so since Chase Anderson, who started 5-0 with the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2014.
Grisham's breakout season continued Friday when he homered for the third straight game, crushing a grand slam that created some early breathing room before the Yankees piled on late for their season-high sixth straight win, 10-2 over the White Sox. "It's what I've always dreamed about and thought I was capable of," Grisham said of his career-high 28 homers in his seventh season as a big leaguer. "To do it is a whole other thing. But no, it does not surprise me."
