The future of trucking may involve hydrogen fuel-cell technology and electric vehicles, focusing on efficiency and sustainability.
However, when it comes to the environment, overlanding vehicles are major gas guzzlers, leaving behind emissions that pollute even the cleanest of places. To address this, Toyota has taken a step in the right direction: it has prepared the Toyota Tacoma H2-Overlander concept, which is winning hearts not for its looks, but for its ability to breathe hydrogen and exhale water.
It borrows the fuel-cell from the second-generation Mirai and captures the resulting water vapor for other uses. Two electric motors give it 547 horsepower and other modifications make it perfectly suited for going off-road. Toyota doesn't intend to give up on the hydrogen fuel cell as a means to propel passenger vehicles, which it hopes to offer on a wider scale in its future, possibly even powering the next Corolla.
Imagine track day with yet another silent Tesla Plaid whooshing past the grandstand. The performance is undeniable, but something feels missing. The drama. The theater. The raw emotional connection that makes your pulse quicken before you even see the car coming. Designer: Hyundai Now imagine hearing something different cutting through that electric silence. Not the roar of a V8, but the subtle whistle of compressed hydrogen feeding a fuel cell.
