Essentially what it refers to is someone or something presenting as straight but in reality is not. It's the exact opposite of 'queer-baiting', where someone or something presents as being queer without actually identifying as such. In 2018, people said Brokeback Mountain was an example of 'straight-baiting' as its advertising used the film's mixed-gendered couples in its marketing. This appeared to have lured numerous people in who probably wouldn't have gone to a gay film had they known that was at the its core.

Jonathan Bailey has been paired with David Cornswet for Variety's Actors on Actors, and fans can't control their thirst for the duo. On Wednesday (3 December), Variety and CNN revealed the celebrity-packed lineup for the 23rd season of Actors on Actors, the Emmy-winning franchise that pairs the year's best performers in interviews about their careers. Among this year's parings is Wicked: For Good's Bailey and Superman's Corenswet.

Wednesday's (26 November) event happened to be Wicked-themed in celebration of Bailey's new film and was hosted by drag queen Charisma Belle along with Naomi Palmer, with the duo dressed up as Glinda and Elphaba. Footage from the event shows Bailey walking out in front of the crowd after yelling "Bingay" to enthusiastic cheers and applause. "What a treat it is," says Belle. Asked what he prefers TV or film the Bridgerton star replied, "Bingay!" evoking further cheers from the audience.
