Kerr said he is hopeful the new addition will be ready to take the floor on Feb. 19 against Boston, which also happens to be the same day the Warriors expect to bring back Steph Curry. He was close to returning for Atlanta, and that was one of the reasons we made the trade, because our performance staff did their due diligence and felt like he would be on-track to play shortly after the break, Kerr said. That's still the hope.
Porzingis, who played for the Celtics from 2023-25, will be sidelined due to left Achilles tendinitis when Boston visits the Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. The 7-foot-2 center was originally questionable to play, but was downgraded to out on Friday. The new-look Hawks, who recently dealt point guard Trae Young to the Washington Wizards, traded for Porzingis from the Celtics in what was a salary dump move for Boston last July.
I'm a Boston kid. I then get traded for Kristaps Porzingis. They don't give a [expletive] if I'm from Boston or not. They're like, 'You just took our unicorn and replaced him with a minivan. Get the [expletive] out of here.' ... They want superstars.
