This actually started because my father could not read and write and I saw how crippling that could be. My dad was a very smart man. And I often wondered what he could have done had he been able to read and write. So that is the inspiration.

"Libraries are among our most precious public resources," Adams said, adding that the funding will help more residents access literacy programs, technology classes and career resources.

"We did this last year and this year, and I'm very thankful to be given this opportunity," Yamamoto said through his interpreter. "I'd like to do this if there's another opportunity."
