The City Council of Palo Alto has begun the process of putting amendments to the city's charter on the 2024 ballot that would allow voters to directly elect their mayor for either a two- or four-year term.
Current Mayor Greer Stone and Councilor Vicki Veenker both support amending the charter to give voters the responsibility of choosing their mayor.
Amending the charter would promote greater democracy within the community and allow for a longer term for the mayor, potentially enhancing their ability to build relationships at higher levels of government.
