Choosing to remain in this coveted pocket of North Fremantle, our clients sought to expand rather than relocate a challenge made intricate owing to the site's strict heritage controls.

UC Berkeley professor and architect William C. Hays had a vision for this oceanfront land, building the large, Spanish-style Casa Del Rey apartment complex and hotel in 1926. In 1964, it was renamed La Bahia Apartments, the ornate bell tower, Juliet balconies, and interior courtyards remaining notable elements even after it was abandoned and left to deteriorate. The Outdoor House embodies the concept of simple living along the Aegean Sea, promoting a harmonious interaction with the Mediterranean climate. It utilizes a large pergola as its main architectural element, designed to maximize comfort and enjoyment during the warm summer months.

Monica Gounaropoulos emphasizes that Mediterranean-style kitchens can be transformed into serene sanctuaries by choosing light countertops and natural materials for an inviting ambiance.
