The foundation's collection is exceptionally large, encompassing more than 10,000 items-including thousands of drawings, over 400 sculptures, 100 paintings, a whole collection of decorative objets d'art, prints, everything that was in the studio, all the archives. Most of the collection has never been exhibited.
The museum will include over 40,000 works of "narrative art," ranging from murals to comic book art and, of course, cinematic artifacts. Among those are the Lucas Archives, "containing models, props, concept art, and costumes from Lucas's filmmaking career," which presumably includes at least a few Star Wars relics. It sounds like Lucas's filmmaking memorabilia will be just a small part of the museum, which is dedicated to illustrated storytelling broadly. Its 35 galleries will include themes like family, childhood, sports, and adventure.
"This museum was home to the Kahlo family for four generations; we open it to share our legacy." Thus reads a sign at the entrance of Museo Casa Kahlo, a new institution dedicated to Frida Kahlo that opened on 27 September. Memories, family ties and storytelling shape the intimate space, located a five-minute walk from Casa Azul in Mexico City's Coyoacán neighbourhood-Kahlo's central pilgrimage enclave.
