The bronze and steel tower at 270 Park, which reportedly cost $3 billion, replaced the Union Carbide Building, which sat on a full city block between 47th and 48th Street and Park Avenue and Madison Avenue for nearly 60 years. JPMorgan expects to house roughly 10,000 of its 24,000 New York-based employees in the new building, with some employees starting their first workday at the tower at the same time as the company holds its ribbon cutting ceremony.
There are custom arched windows in the living room and bedroom - dramatic and plenty of sky to take in. There are white oak floors throughout, and in the kitchen, Italian custom cabinetry along with Carrara marble countertops and backsplashes. The bathroom walls also have a marble situation going on (fluted, dark), and on the other side of the apartment, there's a bonus office space that's petite but has a well-placed window.
The priciest residential deal recorded in New York City was in Greenwich Village, where J. Carey Smith, a Texas-based entrepreneur who founded Big Ass Solutions, his wife Nancy Smith and their son Tristan Smith sold a townhouse at 11 West 12th Street for $26.5 million. The Smiths purchased the home in 2019 for $19.9 million, then put it on the market in June, asking $27 million. The five-story, 25-foot-wide townhouse spans 9,700 square feet and has six bathrooms, a two-car garage.
Residential: The top home sale in New York was William Lauder's trade of his Upper East Side co-op, which sold for a profit. Lauder, the chairman of cosmetics company Estee Lauder, sold his unit at 998 Fifth Avenue for $37.5 million, after paying $23.5 million for the four-bedroom apartment in 2017. The co-op's new owners are Evan Cheng, the co-founder and CEO of cryptocurrency firm Mysten Labs and Yu-Wen Chang. The deal appears to have been off-market.
