Subsequent to 30 June 2025, the registrations of certain players and football management staff were acquired or extended for a total consideration, including associated costs of £169,524,000. Payments are due within the next six years. Also, subsequent to 30 June 2025, sell-on fees and contingent consideration totalling £2,119,000 became payable in respect of previous playing registration acquisitions.
Shares surged 40.6 per cent to 27.2 pence as the company defied the challenging backdrop for advertising groups, but reported a fall in revenue. The company anticipates full year net revenue of roughly £664m, representing a like for like drop of 8.5 per cent. But operating profit is expected to jump 12 per cent to £75m, beating initial forecast and buoying the share price after it declined 18.5 per cent over the last twelve months after a succession of profit warnings.
Manchester United's net debt has broken the $1 billion barrier for the first time due to summer borrowings for player recruitment taking the club's overall debt to its highest level since the Glazer family takeover in 2005. In the club's first quarter accounts, published on Thursday, United's non-current borrowings -- debt mountain built since the Glazers' leveraged takeover -- were reported at £481 million ($644m).
