Nothing gets you hungry for a delicious Thanksgiving turkey feast quite like the magic of the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade. This beloved tradition incorporates the grandeur of larger-than-life balloons, marching bands, floats, Broadway and celebrity performances, clowns, and the famed Radio City Rockettes. As one of New York City's most cherished annual events, the occasion brings together locals and visitors, who gather in the spirit of gratitude and merriment.

This Sunday (the second Sunday of November), tens of thousands of people will gather in the centre of London to commemorate all those who have served in the British and Commonwealth military, past and present. Members of the Royal family, political leaders, faith communities and ex-servicemen and women will all be taking part in a parade and laying poppy wreaths at National War Memorial - aka the Cenotaph - on Whitehall, with the public invited to pay their respects from the sidelines.

The parade in Crown Heights starts at Utica Avenue near Lincoln Terrace Park. It travels west on Eastern Parkway to Grand Army Plaza, ending near the Brooklyn Museum and Prospect Park. The roughly two-mile route is typically lined with more than a million spectators and has more than a dozen security checkpoints. Street closures for the festivities will begin Sunday and last through Monday, at the discretion of police, the New York City Department of Transportation says.

"The parade is set to take place on Saturday (23 August). Starting at 12pm BST, marchers will set off from Liverpool Road and navigate through the city centre via Deansgate, Peter Street, Oxford Road, Portland Street, Princess Street and Whitworth Street, before ended up at Fairfield Street at about 3pm BST. An accessible viewing area is located opposite The Midland Hotel, on Peter Street."
