Nobody expected a significant drop-off from Quan Martin this season. Most fans and experts anticipated a genuine breakout campaign from the safety, and the Washington Commanders made him the alpha dog on the backend after letting Jeremy Chinn walk in free agency. Sadly, these increased responsibilities and added pressure have had a detrimental impact on Martin's development. He looks like a shell of the player who progressed so encouragingly last season.

20 points even. That is the lowest numbers of point per game that McCollum has averaged in a single season since breaking out in his third season and winning Most Improved Player in 2015-16. Like a metronome, McCollum averaged between 20 and 23.1 points for 10-straight seasons. Last year he put up 21.1 points per game and hit 37.3 percent of his 3-pointers.

The season is still young but also isn't nothing and whether you feel the Leafs will be fine or not is somewhat irrelevant. What matters is that this doesn't look like a club that is attempting to prove that they can do even better without Mitch Marner. Matias Maccelli, Nicolas Roy, and Dakota Joshua haven't taken steps back from their 2024-25 downturns, and Anthony Stolarz' save percentage points to a club that is witnessing their PDO bubble burst.

Last season, there were plenty of opportunities for regression, given what occurred during the 2023-24 season. Almost every player in last year's article regressed in a meaningful way. Auston Matthews, Sam Reinhart, Jonathan Marchessault, Zach Hyman and the Vancouver Canucks regressed in their own significant ways from the previous season. That's not to say they won't bounce back this season.

2024 had a lot of struggle bug-esque moments for the Braves, but one of the big ones was their inability to do... much of anything against Nationals starter Jake Irvin. The Braves and Irvin faced off four times, and while the Braves came away with two victories, the part where they hit against Irvin wasn't very fun. He dominated them in May (Braves won 2-0 late), had an okay start that the Braves lost in June, had a legitimately bad outing in August, and then beat up on the Braves again in September.
