The Pokemon Trading Card Game's latest expansion set is available now, and Amazon has restocked most of the new releases on launch day. Mega Evolution - Phantasmal Flames adds over 120 cards for Pokemon trainers to collect. As usual, the Elite Trainer Box and Booster Bundle are the most popular products in the expansion. Booster Blisters and the 36-pack Booster Display Box are back in stock, too.
Amazon has the new Pokemon TCG Mega Lucario ex Figure Collection in stock for $49.69 (was $70). The Mega Evolution-themed Lucario box set launched November 7. It comes with a Lucario figure with a built-in terrain display stand, two Mega Lucario ex promo cards, and five booster packs. Amazon is also taking preorders for Phantasmal Flames' Mega Battle Deck. Amazon has restocked the Pokemon TCG Trick or Trade Booster Bundle, and this time the retailer isn't selling it for an astronomical price. Earlier this month, Amazon priced the bag of Halloween-themed mini packs at $50. As of October 29, the Trick or Trade Booster Bundle is $27.80. Your order will be shipped and sold by Amazon, but unfortunately it won't arrive until mid-November.
While scalping is an ever-present scourge for collectible card game players, it has become a completely ruinous issue for the Pokémon TCG for almost a year now. Ever since the release of Prismatic Evolutions in January 2025, it has been close to impossible for even specialist stores to stock new sets of the wildly popular game, online stores are wiped clean in seconds, and larger retailers see anything put out on shelves gone in minutes.
The appeal here is simple value. For $5 for 50 cards, you're paying 10 cents per card which is effectively floor price on Pokemon cards no matter what format. The individual booster packs cost $4 to $5 and contain only 10 to 11 cards, so you'd be paying $20 to $25 to get the same quantity through the traditional retailing method.
It just seems like it would be too much hassle, and that's not to mention everything that happens around the game. When I do hear stories about the TCG, they're usually stories of controversy . Images of people nearly destroying the Van Gogh Museum in order to get exclusive cards and merchandise to sell online, as well as grown-ass men fighting and camping out for cards outside of GameStops, are seared into my brain.
For those that don't know, the "Prerelease Raichu" card is the stuff of legend. According to reports dating back to the late '90s, around 11 copies of the original Raichu card with "PRERELEASE" text stamped in the corner of the artwork were accidentally produced by Wizards of the Coast employees. These cards were mixed in with pre-release Clefable cards that were given out at events in the '90s, and they were supposed to have been destroyed, though a few were supposedly saved by WOTC workers.
