The convicted child sexual abuser and former Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has died after being attacked in prison. The 48-year-old was serving a 29-year prison sentence at HMP Wakefield, with a further six years on licence, after admitting a string of sex offences including the attempted rape of a baby. He was arrested after the execution of a drugs warrant at his Pontypridd home on 21 September 2012, when a large number of computers, mobile phones and storage devices were seized.
James appeared on his computer monitor, framed by the U.S. and the New York State flags. She explained that the videos were from body-worn cameras that the officers had on "at the time of the incident." The cameras had been powered on, but not activated, so the officers did not realize they were recording. "These videos are shocking and disturbing," James said. "I encourage taking caution before viewing."
At least 17 people have been killed in a prison riot in Ecuador, the second deadly prison brawl to hit the country this week. Thursday's fighting broke out in the coastal city of Esmeraldas near the Colombian border. Police reportedly found dead prisoners inside their cellblocks, and images shared on social media and verified by the AFP news agency show victims sprawled on the ground with bare, blood-stained torsos. At least two of them were decapitated.
The firearms/lethal force armouries suggestion is just headline-grabbing nonsense. If this was needed, why wouldn't armed police be deployed rather than creating another trained force in our service?
The incident at HMP Belmarsh highlights the ongoing debate about prison conditions and security, particularly regarding inmates deemed extremely dangerous, like Axel Rudakubana.
