California authorities allege that Amazon has put pressure on independent sellers using its platform into raising their prices on the sites of competitors such as Walmart and Target, so that Amazon can appear to have lower prices.

Without the half-percent sales tax increase, which would generate an estimated $9 million per year for the city's general fund if voters approve it this November, Berkeley could face deeper cuts including shuttering a fire station, laying off police officers and reducing hours at city pools and recreation centers.

Senate Bill 1167 has received the most favorable press, based on the understanding that the e-bike problem is actually an e-moto problem. The ruckus and ER visits are not caused by pedal-assist class 1 and 3 e-bikes, but by throttle devices that often fail to cut off at 20 mph, leading to safety concerns.
