Segra has completed a major network expansion connecting the Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station to its inland network, delivering a new 600G route into Charlotte and Raleigh North Carolina. The newly completed route is designed as a direct inland path from the Myrtle Beach Cable Landing Station to Charlotte and Raleigh, with high-capacity network access extending to Atlanta and Ashburn, Virginia. This architecture provides carriers and hyperscalers with a more direct, scalable option for moving international traffic into key U.S. markets.

Ookla said the growing use of ChatGPT and other AI tools places much more demand on mobile networks than the typical activities of browsing social media and the web, watching videos, texting, and making the occasional phone call. As a result, more speed and expanded capabilities will be necessary. The report said advanced AI capabilities like AI-enabled glasses will put a particular strain on upload connections in the future.

"Many Tribal governments are interested in having more ownership over telecom networks and are exploring different approaches, ranging from full ownership of infrastructure to partnerships with private entities such as ISPs or even creating a mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) model," wrote Ookla editorial director Sue Marek.
