The Reds have designated right-hander Lyon Richardson for assignment. Means didn't specify a recovery timeline but seems likely to miss the entire 2026 season. It's another devastating injury for a former All-Star whose career has been sidetracked by health issues. Means has made a total of 10 MLB appearances since the end of the 2021 season.

Perez is already under team control through the 2029 season and doesn't even become arbitration-eligible until next winter, so there is zero urgency on Miami's part to move a pitcher who looks like a cornerstone. Of course, the Marlins' stance could change if a team approached them with a truly huge trade proposal for Perez, but barring that type of Godfather offer, Perez will surely be staying put.

Right-handed pitcher Johan Oviedo, along with left-handed pitcher Tyler Samanieg and minor league catcher Adonys Guzman, were acquired from the Pirates by the Red Sox in a trade for one of Boston's top hitting prospects (outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia) and minor league right-handed pitcher Jesus Travieso. Oviedo, who turns 28 in March, was a part of the Pirates' starting rotation last season and appears to be in line to get a similar role with the Red Sox this year.

The Atlanta Braves made a minor move (literally) on Tuesday morning, signing left-hander Danny Young to a one-year, split deal. The 31-year-old was previously with the New York Mets, who recently outrighted him, giving Atlanta the opportunity to pick him up. He did undergo Tommy John surgery in May, so he won't be on the mound at the beginning of the season.

The Marlins and right-hander discussed an extension earlier this year, according to reporting from Will Sammon, Ken Rosenthal and Katie Woo of The Athletic. However, they didn't come close to getting something done. These talks occurred when the team approached the righty's representatives in the spring and the two sides were about $15MM apart, according to Isaac Azout of Fish on First. Both Azout and Christina De Nicola of MLB.com say that the talks are expected to continue this offseason.

The Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles of Japan's Nippon Professional Baseball announced they've signed Kenta Maeda. The 37-year-old righty said in August that he planned to return to his home country next year. A report from Japan's Sankei Sports indicates he signed a two-year contract. This will all but officially close the book on Maeda's career in the major leagues. He pitched in nine MLB seasons, turning in a 4.20 earned run average while coming up a little shy of 1000 innings pitched.

Cedric first appeared in mid-May in the FCL and made two starts there, before being sent to Rome for his final 13 starts of the season. He had a 0.00 ERA and 1.09 WHIP with 13 strikeouts to two walks in 7.1 innings with the FCL team before he pitched to a 3.74 ERA and 1.43 WHIP in Rome, striking out 66 and walking 41 in 53 innings.

Now 31 years old, Gonsolin looked like a potential rotation stalwart with the Dodgers early in his career. From 2019-22, he pitched a combined 272 2/3 innings with a 2.51 ERA while fanning nearly one quarter of his opponents and posting a solid 8.5% walk rate. A pair of IL stints due to shoulder inflammation, plus time off due to an ankle sprain and forearm inflammation, limited Gonsolin's workload in that four-year period.

Amidst the Atlanta Braves managerial buzz, Hall of Famer Chipper Jones told 680 The Fan that he has no interest in managing his former club. He did, however, make mention of possibly joining the staff as a hitting coach. It would not be Jones' first appearance on the staff. Beginning in 2021, he took on a part-time role as the Braves' hitting consultant. So, while Jones has ruled out managing the team, there is still a possibility he serves the team in some capacity.
