The Washington Wizards have long been considered one of the worst teams in the league. However, thanks to the new front office regime of general manager Will Dawkins and President of Monumental Basketball Michael Winger, change seems to be on the horizon. Between the team's talented young core filled with high-upside prospects, a head coach in Brian Keefe, who's seemingly built something that players can buy into and the assets accumulated over the years to make bold moves, Washington has slowly but surely rising from the mud.

CJ McCollum will miss his first game of the season for the Washington Wizards on Wednesday with what the team is calling right quad soreness. Maybe there is nothing more to it than that, but the timing is interesting, considering on Monday, NBA insider Marc Stein reported the team was having conversations with the Hawks about a Trae Young trade. Shortly after Washington said that McCollum would sit, ESPN NBA insider Shams Charania reported that Young's top trade destination is the Wizards.
The 27-year-old is in the midst of a down year, currently averaging 19.3 points and 8.9 assists on just 42% shooting and 31% from 3-point range. He's also dealt with injuries for most of this season- appearing in just 10 games so far. The drop in his statistical numbers could be impacted by injury or Young's desire to be traded after failing to reach a contract extension with Atlanta. It could even be a little bit of both.
