Amidst severe icy weather in western Germany, Frankfurt Airport has cancelled nearly 100 flights scheduled for Monday, leaving many travellers facing unexpected delays and disruptions. The cancellation of at least 98 flights at Frankfurt Airport was officially confirmed on Monday morning by a spokeswoman for the airport operator Fraport. The spokeswoman also told the German Press Agency that the number of flights affected could increase as the day goes on.

An explosion at a chemical factory in Lyon, in eastern France, has led to the closure of road and rail links, while local residents have been advised to stay indoors. The blast happened at a factory in the Saint-Fons area, south of Lyon, on Monday afternoon. The factory was classed as a Seveso site - a European classification meaning a site with a potential risk to health.

When the French government goes back to work in September, the first item on the to-do list is the 2026 Budget, which must attempt to get a grip on the country's spiralling deficit. Prime Minister Francois Bayrou released a draft Budget plan in July with 44 billion in savings (including the loss of two public holidays), which unsurprisingly has proved unpopular.

Notting Hill Carnival 2025 will see million (yes, millions) of partiers flocking to west London donning feathers, big bold sequins and tributes to their cultures, ready to dance the day away. Public transport will inevitably be packed on Sunday and Monday as people make their way to the event.

Officers were called to the railway line in Tonge, near Sittingbourne, shortly after 12.45pm on Sunday following reports of a train striking a van. Paramedics also attended, but the person died at the scene.
