On Sunday, J. D. Vance was presented with the simplest moral test: denounce commentators who traffic in medieval blood libels, who deny the Holocaust, and who endlessly harp on evil Jewish cabals. The test was forced on the vice president. By the time he addressed the Turning Point USA conference this past weekend, it had turned into a referendum on latter-day Father Coughlins who have acquired substantial and growing audiences on the right.
Turning Point USA's first AmericaFest without Charlie Kirk reveals ideological rifts within the conservative movement. Prominent conservative figures in the United States have clashed at Turning Point USA's annual conference, exposing the underlying rift within the ruling Republican Party and US President Donald Trump's Make America Great Again (MAGA) base. The four-day conference held in Phoenix, Arizona, brought together Republican leaders, media personalities, and conservative activists, an event which exposed deep ideological disagreements within the conservative movement.
Speaking with Fox's Martha MacCallum, McEnany called Kirk's endorsement powerful before adding a word of caution for the party. I think it's very important that the Republican party have a competitive primary, she said. It makes you tougher. We see how much weaker, in my opinion, the left was by not having a primary [in 2024]. I hope we have that competitive primary, she stressed.
The Trump administration has opened a new investigation into protests at UC Berkeley this month in opposition to an event hosted by Turning Point USA, a conservative group founded by Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated in September. The probe by the U.S. Department of Education will review whether UC Berkeley violated the Clery Act. The federal law, enacted in 1990, requires colleges to report campus crime data and to give timely warnings of crimes that pose a threat.
The meeting between Morath and Turning Point USA Senior Director Josh Thifault took place on Nov. 3 in Austin, according to records obtained by The Texas Tribune. The two gathered in person weeks after Thifault reached out to the agency to ask when the commissioner "would like to speak with me" about the possibility of a partnership to establish Turning Point USA chapters in high schools across Texas, similar to initiatives launched in other states.
The U.S. Department of Justice announced Tuesday it is investigating how UC Berkeley prepared for a Turning Point USA event Monday night that sparked intense protests on campus. In two letters posted on X and addressed to university officials, the department's Civil Rights Division requested campus communication records related to how the university prepared security for the event and responded to the protests.
Footage from a dustup, in which student protesters were chanting "Nazis go home!" and "Fuck you, fascists!" at one guy selling Jesus-y t-shirts which was f0llowed by someone tossing some t-shirts to the ground and then getting in a scuffle with the t-shirt guy that left his face bloodied made the rounds of conservative social media, with the mostly unmasked student protesters being disingenuously labeled "Antifa."
"I'm a historian of fascism and I understand that the way that authoritarian movements grow is by coming up with a boogeyman term like 'Antifa,'" said Bray, author of "Antifa: The Anti-Fascist Playbook." "It really started after [President] Trump's executive order declaring Antifa a quote-unquote terrorist organization."
