Heatwave conditions can soften roads above about 50C and stress tyres, increasing risks of rutting, punctures, and dangerous blowouts.
Motorists are being warned that common modifications, such as adding roof boxes, towbars and bicycle racks, could end up costing them. Failing to declare these, as well as other modifications, including window tints and sunroofs, could void car insurance policies. They're urging motorists to inform insurers of any changes they make to their cars. If they fail to keep their insurance up to date, motorists could be driving with a void insurance policy, and if they need to make a claim, an insurer could refuse to pay out.
According to a survey of over 13,000 members conducted by the AA, an estimated 21.7 million journeys are expected across the UK on Thursday, making this one of the busiest Easters in recent years.
