Hernandez, driving a red Toyota Corolla eastbound on Fairgrounds Road, first rear-ended a silver Honda Pilot. A juvenile passenger of the Honda Pilot sustained injuries from the crash. As the driver of the Honda Pilot exited his car to speak with Hernandez, however, Hernandez reversed his vehicle and fled the scene, striking a parked white Honda CR-V.
Officers took Yonathan Guzman, 22, into custody shortly before 5 p.m., charging him with murder and three counts of criminal weapons possession, NYPD officials said. Guzman is accused of shooting the 24-year-old man inside the building where Guzman lived, on Dorchester Road near East 21st Street early Sunday. Police said they responded to a 911 call about someone shot at the address around 2 a.m.
It is clear from the defendant's conviction for possessing this weapon that he is a danger to the community at large as well as inside a correctional institution," U.S. Attorney Joseph Nocella said. "Today's verdict holds him accountable for his lack of respect for the law.
