'We didn't come here for fourth' - Michael Matthews frozen out of Milan-San Remo podium
Briefly

In the 2025 Milan-San Remo, Michael Matthews faced another disappointment as he was unable to keep pace with Tadej Pogačar's decisive attack on the Cipressa. Despite his efforts and preparation in altitude training, Matthews struggled with cold weather, which hindered his ability to respond effectively during the crucial moments of the race. Acknowledging that following Pogačar was a challenge, he ultimately secured fourth place after competing fiercely in the final sprint, yet expressed concern about his performance as the cold weather seemed to impact his legs significantly.
It was really quite stressful the whole run into the Cipressa... but when you haven't got the greatest of legs... it zaps a lot out of you legs.
Honestly, my legs were really bad today. I'm really struggling with the cold... today my legs just felt totally lactated in the cold as soon as I want to go hard.
Still, Matthews did manage to secure fourth by powering through to claim the sprint from the bunch.
