Hiring? Agriculture Canada announces funds for youth jobs program
"Supporting young Canadians as they build their careers in agriculture is an investment in the future of our country. By opening doors to meaningful experiences in this essential sector, we help the next generation gain the skills, confidence, and opportunities they need to thrive. This investment will strengthen our rural communities, support innovation, and ensure the continued success of Canadian agriculture."
"The YESP provides cost-share support to agriculture and agri-food employers that hire youth aged 15 to 30 for work experience and skill development opportunities, by providing non-repayable contributions for the youth's wages and benefits."
"The YESP further incentivizes employers to hire youth facing barriers to employment, including, but not limited to Indigenous youth, youth with disabilities, and youth living in rural or remote regions."
Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada announced $27 million in funding for the Youth Employment and Skills Program (YESP) over two years, with over $13 million allocated for 2026-27. The program provides cost-share support to agriculture and agri-food employers hiring youth aged 15 to 30, offering non-repayable contributions for wages and benefits. YESP prioritizes youth facing employment barriers, including Indigenous youth, youth with disabilities, and those in rural or remote regions. Applications open March 5 to May 4, 2026, with streamlined processes implemented this year. Since 2019, the program has supported over 6,200 youth jobs across Canada's agriculture sector.
