Laketran, serving Lake County, OH, marked its 50th anniversary with a ribbon-cutting for its renovated headquarters, enhancing public transit services. The $22 million project, featuring an additional 37,670 square feet, supports operations and maintenance, improving storage capabilities and efficiency for a fleet of 160 vehicles. CEO Ben Capelle emphasized the commitment to meet growing community needs, especially for seniors and those with disabilities. Collaboratively funded through a Federal Transit Administration grant, the modernized facility aims to promote sustainable and accessible transportation in the region.
With over 260 community members in attendance, the celebration brought together local officials, community leaders, transit peers, contractors, and current and former agency trustees to commemorate the completion of a $22 million Operations and Maintenance Facility renovation.
