In the first quarter of 2025, prices for used electric and hybrid vehicles in the UK decreased by 10%, with the average price dropping from £20,956 to £18,973. The decline is attributed to excess supply outpacing demand, leading to substantial price reductions, particularly for models like the Toyota Prius and Nissan Leaf. Despite this, prices for petrol and diesel cars remained stable, falling only 3%. Experts suggest that price trends may soon favor EVs and hybrids, offering affordability benefits to drivers.
Prices of the UK's most popular used electric and hybrid vehicles fell by a tenth (-10%) in the first quarter of 2025 compared with the same period last year.
The Toyota Yaris (hybrid) - the most searched for EV or hybrid - dropped in price by 14% over the last 12 months, while the Toyota Prius has seen the biggest price fall (-42%).
James Hosking, Director of AA Cars, said, 'The most popular second-hand EVs and hybrids are becoming more and more affordable for the average motorist.'
We may soon reach a point where the most popular second-hand EVs and hybrids are cheaper than their petrol and diesel counterparts.
