Southwest Airlines ending free baggage policy - this is how much it'll cost
Briefly

Southwest Airlines has officially retired its long-standing 'bags fly free' policy, requiring passengers to pay for checked luggage starting tomorrow. This shift was made as part of a strategy to enhance revenue and counteract pressures from activist investors. While most passengers will face fees of $35 for the first bag and $45 for a second, some frequent flyers will be exempt. Concern remains about the potential backlash from customers who valued the unique perk, which executives previously claimed distinguished Southwest from competitors.
"I suspect that a couple of years down the road, we'll see that this plan was all a wash, more or less," said Ben Shlappig of One Mile At A Time.
"The bags fly free rule was one way Southwest had distinguished itself from the competition," Blade reported.
