Apple is working on a redesigned smartwatch model anticipated for launch in 2026, featuring a new exterior and double the onboard sensors for tracking health metrics. The smartwatch may have eight sensors arranged in a ring pattern on the underside, monitoring metrics such as heart rate, blood-oxygen saturation, and steps. Apple has yet to confirm the specifics, leaving uncertainty about whether this will be the Apple Watch Series 12 or an iteration of the Watch Ultra-series. Upcoming models include Apple Watch Series 11 and Watch Ultra 3 set for unveiling next month.
The 2026 Apple Watch model could ship with a major exterior redesign, along with 'double the number of sensors' and enhanced power efficiency.
The underside of the rumoured smartwatch will come with a larger glass element, housing eight sensors arranged in a ring pattern visible to the wearer.
These sensors allow the wearable to track a wearer's health metrics, such as heart rate, blood-oxygen, cardiovascular rhythm, steps, menstrual cycles of women.
The tech giant is also working on a sleep apnoea detector.
