During a visit to Qatar, President Donald Trump voiced concerns to Apple CEO Tim Cook regarding Apple's plans to manufacture products in India. Trump emphasized Apple's significant investment in the U.S. and insisted that Apple should prioritize U.S. manufacturing over operations in India, citing India's high tariffs as a barrier that affects U.S. exports. Despite Trump's comments, Apple indicated it would still produce iPhones for the U.S. market in India, while Cook considers increasing domestic manufacturing.
I said: 'Tim, look ... we put up with all the plants that you built in China for years. Now you've got to build us. We're not interested in you building in India. India can take care of themselves.'
Apple later said it would make iPhones for the US market in India, even as US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick said Cook wants to manufacture iPhones in America.
