Brett Adcock, CEO of Figure AI, announced that the humanoid robotics firm is terminating its partnership with OpenAI. This decision comes after a significant breakthrough in their development, prompting Figure to concentrate on building its own AI solutions instead. Adcock hinted at an upcoming reveal that could significantly advance humanoid robotics in the next month. The collaboration with OpenAI had aimed to enhance natural language capabilities in humanoids, but integration challenges led to the shift towards end-to-end AI development focused on specific robotic hardware.
"We found that to solve embodied AI at scale in the real world, you have to vertically integrate robot AI; we can't outsource AI for the same reason we can't outsource our hardware."
Adcock hinted at a forthcoming "something no one has ever seen on a humanoid" to be revealed in the next 30 days, showcasing the company's pivot towards in-house AI.
