Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, spoke about the future of video game development with AI tools, suggesting they will enable smaller teams to create expansive games. He referenced the historic correlation between technology advancements and new game genres, predicting a similar impact from AI. Sweeney emphasized that AI will not replace creators, but enhance their efficiency. However, he cautioned about the misuses of AI, noting that while bad actors exist, the fundamental potential of AI is to empower and revolutionize game development capabilities for smaller teams.
AI characters giving you the possibility of infinite dialogue with a really simple setup for creators means small teams will be able to create games with immense amounts of characters and immense and interactive worlds.
AI is ultimately there to empower human creators to create stuff more efficiently, not replace them. I think that's a good thing.
It's unfortunate that the AI space has been tainted by companies that steal other people's content. Bad actors have always existed and will always exist.
There's going to be a massive evolution as everybody scrambles to learn new skills as you get on top of what's possible here.
