Anthropic, a competitor of OpenAI, is entangled in a copyright lawsuit with major record labels over its AI chatbot's training materials. A recent court session revealed a misstep by Anthropic's data scientist, Qinnan Chen, who provided a faulty citation. The citation was flagged by the opposing counsel as a "complete fabrication". Anthropic's lawyer, Ivana Dukanovic, acknowledged the mistakes, attributing them to errors made by the Claude chatbot while emphasizing the proper link was used.
Oppenheim claimed that an article under the given title does not exist, and accused Chen of using the Claude chatbot to develop her argument.
Dukanovic admitted it was an "embarrassing and unintentional mistake" and stated that the link was correct, but the title and authors were wrong.
