Meta has relaxed its acceptable use policy, allowing US government and contractors to use the Llama AI model—a step towards more open-source AI.
'We believe it is in both America and the wider democratic world's interest for American open-source models to excel and succeed over models from China and elsewhere,' said Meta's Nick Clegg.
Despite being labeled as 'open source,' Meta's Llama comes with a restrictive 630-word acceptable use policy, conflicting with the general definition of open-source AI.
The Open Source Initiative recently defined open-source AI as a model usable, modifiable, and shareable by anyone without permission, showcasing the distinction in Meta's approach.
